Beschrijving

Calamus root, derived from the plant Acorus calamus, has been known for centuries for its versatile health benefits. This robust root has a slightly bitter taste and is often used in herbal medicine for its digestive-enhancing and calming properties. Calamus root grows primarily in humid areas and has a long history of use in traditional medicine, both in Europe and Asia. The calamus root we offer grows wild, in its natural habitat. Its wild growth gives it an intense character and a particularly rich taste and aroma.

Preparation Organic Calamus tea

Making a tea (or infusion) is an ideal way to benefit from the beneficial effects of organic calamus. How to easily prepare a cup of healthy calamus tea organic:
  • Add 1 tablespoon of dried calamus root per cup.
  • Pour 250 ml of boiling water over it.
  • Allow the tea to steep for 25-30 minutes to properly release the active ingredients.
  • Strain the tea and slowly enjoy the slightly bitter, aromatic flavor. Optionally, you can add honey or a little lemon to soften the flavor.

Culinary Uses of Calamus

Besides tea, calamus root can also be used as a seasoning in various dishes. The dried root can be added to soups and stews for an extra depth of flavor. Calamus root is also commonly used in liqueurs and bitters because of its unique aromatic profile.

Sustainable packaging

Our herbs are packaged in resealable pouches that protect against light, air, and moisture, helping to preserve their aroma, quality, and properties as well as possible. The pouches are made of paper with a compostable protective layer and are industrially compostable. In many municipalities, they can be disposed of with organic waste. Home composting is also possible, although it may take a bit longer (about 1–2 years). More information about our packaging choice.
