Beschrijving

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is an herb that offers a bit of the best of both worlds: the leaves have a fresh, citrusy flavor, while the seeds provide a warm, nutty touch. Coriander originally grows in Southern Europe, North Africa and Southwest Asia, but thrives in a variety of climates, from India and the Middle East to South America and even close to home in Europe. Not everyone is a fan of cilantro! Due to a genetic trait, some people experience the taste as 'soapy'. Fortunately, this only applies to a small percentage of people; for the rest, cilantro is a true taste sensation that gives every dish that little bit extra.

Culinary Uses of Coriander

Coriander is not only used as a fresh plant (with that parsley-like leaf and typical taste), but also the seeds can be put to good use in cooking. The "seeds" as a ground variety are also known as Ketoembar.
  • Coriander is an indispensable spice in Mexican, Indian, Thai and Middle Eastern cuisine. Think salsas, curries, tacos and couscous dishes.
  • The seeds are ideal for seasoning meat and fish or using in dressings and marinades for added depth of flavor.
  • A spice in African, Oriental and Mediterranean cuisine, coriander seed also serves as a flavoring in many dark beers.
  • You also find these seeds in Arabic cuisine, as one of the basic ingredients of the spice mixture Ras el Hanout.
You will also find Coriander in our Spice Mixes Speculoos Spices, Shoarma Spices, Garam Masala, Gyro Spices, Harissa Spices, Curry, Steak Spices, Ras El Hanout, Curry mild, ....

Sustainable packaging

Our herbs are packaged in resealable pouches that protect against light, air, and moisture, helping to preserve their aroma, quality, and properties as well as possible. The pouches are made of paper with a compostable protective layer and are industrially compostable. In many municipalities, they can be disposed of with organic waste. Home composting is also possible, although it may take a bit longer (about 1–2 years). More information about our packaging choice.
