Description
Chia seeds are the small black seeds of the chia plant (Salvia hispanica). Originally from Mexico and Guatemala, they were a staple food for the ancient Aztecs and Mayans. “Chia” is the ancient Mayan word for “strength.” The nutritious seeds are small, flat and oval in shape with a shiny and smooth texture. Their color ranges from white to brown or black. Chia seeds are packed with nutrients.

Culinary Uses of Chia Seeds
The seeds are very versatile and quite neutral in taste. This makes them easy to add to smoothies, breakfast cereals, energy bars, granola bars, yogurt, tortillas. Chia seeds can also be used in bread baking (up to 5% by weight of flour).
Because of their ability to absorb liquid and form a gel, they can also be used to thicken sauces or as an egg substitute.

The pouches are made of paper with a compostable protective layer and are industrially compostable. In many municipalities, they can be disposed of with organic waste.
